Sodium aluminosilicate or Sodium aluminium silicate or Aluminum sodium silicate or Sodium silicoaluminate is precipitated amorphous silicate produced from precipitation technology. Its small primary particle size and its high degree of whiteness make it especially suitable for use as a white pigment in the production of different coatings such as waterborne dispersion paints, solvent based paints, industrial coatings, lacquers, and printing inks. Synthetic amorphous sodium aluminosilicate is widely used as a food additive, E 554 where it acts as an anticaking (free flow) agent. It is generally recognized as safe (GRAS) when used as an anticaking agent at levels not exceeding 2% in accordance with a good manufacturing practice.
It gives improved levels of whiteness and hiding power (opacity)of the paint, increased stability of paint during storage due to alkaline pH. It also acts as an anti-settling agent and a viscosity and pH regulator. It gives exterior paints good weathering properties and reduces the tendency to pick up dirt.

Specifications of Sodium Aluminosilicate FCC Food Grade:
Sodium Silicoaluminate
INS: 554 CAS 1344-00-9DESCRIPTION
Sodium Aluminosilicate occurs as a fine, white, amorphous powder, or as beads. It is a series of hydrated sodium aluminum silicates having Na2O:Al2O3:SiO2 molar ratios of approximately 1:1:13, respectively. It is insoluble in water and in alcohol and other organic solvents, but at 80C to 100C, it is partially soluble in strong acids and solutions of alkali hydroxides.
Function: Anticaking agent.REQUIREMENTS
Identification:
A. Mix 500 mg of sample with 2.5 g of anhydrous potassium carbonate and heat the mixture in a platinum or nickel crucible until it melts completely. Cool, add 5 mL of water, and allow to stand for 3 min. Heat the bottom of the crucible gently, detach the melt, and transfer it into a beaker with the aid of about 50 mL of water. Gradually add hydrochloric acid until no effervescence is observed, add 10 mL more of the acid, and evaporate to dryness on a steam bath. Cool, add 20 mL of water, boil, and filter through ash-free filter paper. An insoluble residue of silica remains. Retain the filtrate for Identification Test B.
Caution: Handle hydrofluoric acid in an appropriate fume hood.
Transfer the gelatinous residue to a platinum dish, and cautiously add 5 mL of hydrofluoric acid. The precipitate dissolves. (If it does not dissolve, repeat the treatment with hydrofluoric acid.) Heat, and introduce a glass stirring rod with a drop of water on the tip into the resulting vapors. The drop becomes turbid.
B. Portions of the filtrate obtained in Identification Test A give positive tests for Aluminum and for Sodium.
Assay:
Silicon Dioxide Not less than 66.0% and not more than 76.0% of SiO2 after drying.
Aluminum Oxide Not less than 9.0% and not more than 13.0% of Al2O3 after drying.
Sodium Oxide Not less than 4.0% and not more than 7.0% of Na2O after drying.
Lead: Not more than 5 mg/kg.
Loss on Drying: Not more than 8.0%.
Loss on Ignition: Between 8.0% and 13.0% after drying.
pH: (20% slurry) Between 6.5 and 10.5.For Original Monographs of IP Indian Pharmacopoeia BP British Pharmacopoeia USP US Pharmacopoeia FCC Food Grade product, please check with the respective web-pages or books.

Special Information In the event of a fire, wear full protective clothing and NIOSH-approved self-contained breathing apparatus with full face piece operated in the pressure demand or other positive pressure mode. At high temperatures under fire conditions, it may produce toxic or irritating fumes.Section 6: Accidental Release Measures
Personal precautions, protective equipment, and emergency procedures: Avoid breathing dust/fumes/gas/mist/vapors/spray. Use individual protective equipment (waterproof boots, suitable protective clothing, safety glasses, etc.). Restrict unprotected personnel from the area. Prevent any contact with hot surfaces. Do not approach facing the wind. Do not touch the spilled material.
Environmental precautions: Do not let the product enter drains, soil or water sources.
Methods and materials used for containment Cleanup procedures and Storage:
Small Spill: Use appropriate tools to put the spilled solid in a convenient waste disposal container. Finish cleaning by spreading water on the contaminated surface and dispose of according to legal requirements.
Large Spill: Do not inhale dust, vapors, mist, or gas. Avoid dust formation. Contain spilled material. Cover with an inert, non-combustible absorbent material, (e.g. sand, earth, diatomaceous earth, vermiculite). Use a shovel to put the material into a convenient waste disposal container. Finish cleaning by spreading water on the contaminated surface and allow to evacuate as per law.Section 7: Handling and Storage
Precautions for safe handling: Apply according to good manufacturing and industrial hygiene practices. Ensure proper ventilation. Wash thoroughly after handling. Do not drink, eat, or smoke while handling. Avoid contact with skin, eyes, and clothing. Minimize dust generation. Avoid breathing dust/fumes/gas/mist/vapors/spray. Avoid contact with eyes, skin, and clothing. Keep container tightly closed. Avoid ingestion and inhalation. Use individual protective equipment (waterproof boots, suitable protective clothing, safety glasses, etc.). Prevent any contact with hot surfaces.
Conditions for safe storage, including any incompatibilities: Store in cool, dry, and ventilated area away from heat sources and protected from sunlight in tightly closed original container. Keep air contact to a minimum. Do not leave the material container open. Store protected from heat, sparks and ignition sources and incompatible materials. Avoid contact with skin and eyes. Avoid inhalation of dust/mist/vapor. Do not store with incompatible materials like oxidizing agents, acids.Section 8: Exposure Controls/Personal Protection
Engineering Controls: Use process enclosures, local exhaust ventilation, or other engineering controls to keep airborne levels below recommended exposure limits. If user operations generate dust, fume or mist, use ventilation to keep exposure to airborne contaminants below the exposure limit.
Ventilation System: A system of local and/or general exhaust is recommended to keep employee exposures as low as possible. Local exhaust ventilation is generally preferred because it can control the emissions of the contaminant at its source, preventing dispersion of it into the general work area.
Personal Respirators (NIOSH Approved): For conditions of use where exposure to dust or mist is apparent and engineering controls are not feasible, a particulate respirator may be worn. For emergencies or instances where the exposure levels are not known, use a full-face positive-pressure, air-supplied respirator.
Skin Protection: Wear protective gloves and clean body-covering clothing.
Eye Protection: Use chemical safety goggles and/or full face shield where dusting or splashing of solutions is possible. Maintain eye wash fountain and quick-drench facilities in work area.
Other Control Measures: Maintain good housekeeping in work area. Dust deposits on floors and other surfaces may pick up moisture and cause the surfaces to become slippery and present safety hazards. Handle in accordance with good industrial hygiene and safety practice. Wash hands after handling.Section 9: Physical and Chemical Properties
