Calcium Chloride is manufactured
by reaction of good quality Calcium Carbonate like calcite with Hydrochloric
Acid. The reaction is exothermic and steps need to be taken to control the
escape of Acid fumes.
CaCO3 + 2HCl → CaCl2 + H2O and a lot of Heat.
A solution of Calcium Chloride is obtained. It is filtered and evaporated
in multiple effect evaporators. The resultant concentrated liquor is then
cooled to get crystals of Calcium Chloride Dihydrate.
Calcium Chloride Dihydrate so obtained is then dried in a rotary drier or
in a muffle furnace to get Calcium Chloride Anhydrous.
The tricky point comes when the desired grade is Calcium Chloride
Dihydrate or Calcium Chloride Hexahydrate. A specific grade can be obtained
as crystals of Calcium Chloride Dihydrate or any other hydrate by controlled
cooling of the evaporated liquor. Experience is the only key to getting good
grade of crystals. Apart from making crystalline Calcium Chloride, we also make fused,
anhydrous, lumps, granules, powder
and tablets of Calcium Chloride.
